Introduction to social security in Algeria


The social security right is one of the fundamental rights which are stipulated by the universal legislative of human rights,this right is important as well as the civil and political rights, so the 25th article of human rights universal declaration stipulates :” everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing, and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control». This right is also guaranteed in view Algerian Constitution.
The social security is considered as a most efficient social and modern mechanism aiming at tackling the issued effects of different risks affecting the worker during his occupational life, this can be realized by finding a compensation to the salary in case of activity cessation due to sickness ordisability… etc., this compensation is an allowance or pension, which insures to the worker and his survivors’ benefit a well-being and stability even after his death by pension retirement, allowances and other annuities which will be reversed to his survivors’ benefit.
Workers are compensated for damages resulting from employment injury, in addition to this; attach a major importance to health care and to prevent against eventual risks,by developing a national system of social security based on strong, studied and adapted basics according to the contemporary demands answering to the all necessities categories’ society.
The social security is one of the most important tributary of social growth for the humanresources stability protection, by regarding solidarity, sharing out and amplification principles as sacred between different categories and generations.
Social security schemas are set up to cover a large part of the labor force, our schema is universal, meaning that, it applies to almost of workers in a country.
Because of the size of the schema and the fact that participation is mandatory, some workers will exit and re-enter the social schema during their career.
The re-entry may be with a different employer, but the social security schema will fully recognize the past insurance history of the individual, as long as, the old and the new jobs are part of the covered employment defined in law.
The social security system in Algeria has known, in particular through Social Security National Insurances Fund of the Salaried Workers, a huge development after independence which is realized by many measures aimed to achieve global social security coverage for all the active categories and for some fringes of society, in addition to this, contribute in  the national income sharing out by deducting from the active  category income after that redistribute the benefits to individuals who lose their ability to work due to injury or illness, according to the determined measures in view legislative.
